Support and Fundraising for Japan
Japanese Students at Global Village Toronto Send Help Back Home.
On March 11, 2011, a massive earthquake and tsunami devastated northern Japan. Even though we are on the other side of the world, all of the students and staff at Global Village Toronto felt it too.
We asked our Japanese students how we could help. They met together and had two ideas:
”First, it is important to support the Japanese people emotionally,” they told us. They brought a large Canadian flag to school and asked the students to sign it in their native languages. This flag will be sent to people in the affected areas. The messages can comfort those living in difficult conditions by showing that people from so many different countries are thinking about them.
Next, we turned to financial help, especially for the people of Sundai, Japan. People are without homes and without basic necessities like food and water. Japanese students worked hard asking for donations.
Our students and staff were so generous, Global Village Toronto decided to double the money raised, so today we are happy to announce a donation of almost $1500 for the Japanese Red Cross Society in Tokyo.
Thank you for giving generously and thinking about our friends in Japan.
